Based on the 2009 baseline study that was conducted from Women Shuras in Northern Provinces, the findings of the baseline study the project DWSLP was designed. The project’s title was DWSLP and was one of the most successful projects that -were implemented by NECDO’s through financial and technical support of GIZ-GM unit from Nov 2010 –Feb 2012 as first phase of the project.
Throughout this project, we will offer the Women Shuras in very remote areas for the first time, which is an opportunity to meet other women outside of their homes to discuss their needs and concerns. Building up leadership roles for women in the community, means that women will enable other women to discuss and represent their interests both at family and village level in a self-reliant and strategically way. Developing capacity is generally a key strategy for a visible civil society engagement and a close cooperation with local partners and government officials- will ensure women’s participation. In a pre-phase of the project, 100 Women Shura members from 10 Women’s Shuras will be selected, passing an evaluation and assessment procedure. The initial six months will be implemented as a pilot phase. Based on its achievements and lessons that are learned, an annual report will be provided for further development of similar projects in the rest of the NSPs in Badakhshan and other provinces of Afghanistan.Throughout the project first phase we provide 16 women shura (8 in Faizabad & 8 in Kishm) was targeted where into two target groups. The first target group was 880 women from grass root who took two semesters of literacy classes and due to those classes they are capable to read & write the basics of the subject. Alongside they also got awareness on basic health and hygiene, gender, human rights. These women also received food item support to attend the classes by support of WFP. The second target group is 64 women leaders of shuras, which were trained as human resource (managers & leaders) not only by workshops but also close follow up and assignments. Now these women are not only managing their shuras by themselves but also write down proposals for their shuras and try to fund raise for their shuras.During the second phase of the project, we covered in Kahsh and Faizabad with 40 shuras and the following gape they still had from the pervious trainings and 200 women were trained Bahark and Aurgu 100 10 shura
During the third round with financial support of Tawanmandi we covered districts and 200 women shuras members in the year 2012
During the final phase with support of GIZ- RoL project we could reach to 100 women leaders in Khash & Faiazabad districts in 2013
Beside, trainings on project management, project financial management, Gender & human rights, we also had followed up meetings and coordination for the best proposal fund raisings. We could get 21 project of women shura fundraising during the second and third phase and 20 others during 2012
The networking was an important part of the project, which created a strong circle where the trained women are linked with different government, national & international organizations where they in these networking meetings raise voice of women (their needs)
Throughout our work with Women Shura in Badakhshan we have trained professional and qualified women managers and leaders in very remote districts and now these women not only lead their shuras, raise fund, conduct need assessment and organize focus group meetings but also they help men shura to financial management of their grant.
We are also very glad to mention that we have buildup the capacity of 8 female trainers in Badakhshan in the field of overall management and financial management as the human resource for Badakhshan. When we started the project we were not able to find a single person with management skills. Now these are potential leading other women by professionalism can help their communities. The targeted beneficiaries of are now capable of training methods and techniques that are also good human resources for Badakshsan province.
